We're ready for your
questions! Meanwhile, we'll ask Sheila Roth of Super
Jobs and Kevin Holt some questions that others have been
asking.
Question: Who should use Super Jobs Center?
Answer: Everyone who is interested in utilizing all
avenues to secure employment. We have jobs at all levels
(Web developer, substitute teacher, health care) and we
work with employers in a variety of industries.
Question: What services have employers been finding
particularly helpful lately?
Answer: We have employers who hold hiring events
at the Super Jobs Center and use our staff to help sort
through all of the candidates interested in the
employer's open positions. Several large local employers
require all job applicants to submit their applications
initially through Super Jobs.
Question: What about
somebody who has a disability? A lot of these folks
could get jobs in the strong economy, but are finding it
harder now.
Answer: At the Super Jobs Center, we have staff
specifically assigned to address these kinds of issues.
Call 513-731-9800 for more information.
Question: Could you start the process by going to
the Super Jobs satellite office at the
Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency in
Bond Hill?
Answer: Yes. You need to attend orientation on
Tuesday. Please call 513-731-9800 for details.
Question: How do you get an appointment with a
career coach?
Answer: The first step is to attend an
orientation on a Monday at 9 a.m. at 1916 Central
Parkway.
Question: Is there a longer wait to see a career
coach at Super Jobs?
Answer: Still plan on it taking one to two weeks
before you can have an appointment with a career coach.
Question: What are we doing to prepare people for
"green" jobs?
Answer: The Super Jobs Center has a partnership with
Cincinnati State to refer candidates for training in
green industry jobs. Much of our summer youth employment
activity in 2009 was directed at exposing young people
to careers in "green industries."
Question: Are there retraining funds available for
them?
Answer: Federal stimulus dollars have been made
available specifically to laid-off employees for
retraining. Those funds are available through Super
Jobs, your local one-stop.
Question: What would you suggest from someone from
the manufacturing area? You see a lot of closed
auto-related plants as you travel across the Midwest?
Answer: Evaluate your skills to determine what is
transferable and make sure you are getting training in
areas where employers expect a level of competence from
new employees, such as basic PC operation.
Question: What trends are you noticing?
Answer: Health care is still a growing industry.
There is still a demand for nurses and other health care
professionals such as billing and coding specialists.
Question: What is a
new trend in hiring practices?
Answer: Employers are screening job candidates by
viewing their social networking sites, such as Facebook,
MySpace and LinkedIn. Good advice would be to monitor
your personal sites to ensure that nothing incriminating
is on there.
