[Visitor] Are these points correct? The application
for food stamps is online at www.hcjfs.org and I believe
that the first two of the 4-page application is all that
is necessary for Emergency food stamps, unless you need
further assistance.
The Public Library (any branch) will fax the documents
at no charge.
Emergency food stamps are processed in 24 hours to 7
days (I was told, usually 1 to 3 days. Question 5, on
the application.)
Best to be at 222 Central Parkway before 7:am. Or,
prepared to wait hours, or be scheduled for another day.
10:58:19 AM
[Jim Ashmore]
Essentially, that is correct. We do urge you to arrive
as early as possible to be seen as timely as possible.
10:48:04 AM
[Visitor] Hi I just read about you can be referred
to the act program for assistance with school or
training if you dont have a job? I would be interested I
am currently trying to find a job
10:50:20 AM
[Jim Ashmore] If you
have an emergent need right now and minor children in
the home, please come in during normal business hours at
222 E. Central Parkway and ask for a PRC application.
It's a one-page application and once you complete, sign
and date that, you can drop it off to the clerk at the
front desk and an appointment will be scheduled for you.
http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/Buttons/Clients_Customers/PRC.htm Please
understand, we can
10:51:33 AM
[Jim Ashmore] can't
guarantee a referral to ACT. Each case is considered
individually. Please remember ACT is designed as a
program to divert you from public assistance...Ohio
Works First. Super Jobs is always an option for you.
10:33:14 AM [KAthy]
What is the policy about case managers returning phone
calls. Some of my clients call and never receive a
return phone call. I'm not even talking about within a
reasonable time frame. I mean their phone calls are not
returned at all. After a week I tell them to call and
ask for the supervisor. Surely there are rules about
returning calls in a timely fashion.
Jim Ashmore: First, let us
apologize for the inconvenience and delay. While you
didn't mention specifically which area of the agency you
are speaking of, I would suggest you contact the
Customer Service Office at 946-2466. There is also an
online form on Contact Us on www.hcjfs.org.
We have received several questions
from people who have lost their jobs, have housing
issues, etc. If you have minor children in the
home, you may want to come in to 222 E. Central Parkway
and apply for Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC)
services. In certain situations, we can refer you to the
community provider (ACT) Accountability and Credibility
Together. They have a wonderful program that works
directly with families in crisis (including educational
help.) See this link: http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/Buttons/Clients_Customers/PRC.htm
10:18:03 AM [Chrissy] How do you qualify for food
stamps?
10:24:45 AM
[Jim Ashmore] The
qualifications center around income coming into and
going out of the home. Please come to 222 E. Central
Parkway to apply so we can determine your eligibility.
You could also go online in advance to see if you might
qualify. Try this link:
https://secure.thebenefitbank.com/ums?task=locator
10:20:12 AM
[Visitor] Thanks! It would be greatly appreciated by
everyone!
10:22:32 AM
[Jim Ashmore] You're
welcome.
10:10:39 AM
[Visitor] I was wondering why does the state require
so many class hours if you receive cash assistance when
they get reimbursed through child support which they
withhold if you receive cash assistance? I also want to
know why have they placed a limit on the amount of
months you can receive cash assistance especially with
the economy the way it is and jobs as limited as they
are, assistance is very much needed.
10:13:30 AM
[Visitor] I want to know why the state withholds the
child support when only one child does not receive child
support but the other does. So the child that receives
it loses the child support because the child that does
not receive child support needs public assistance. Why
is this?
10:21:46 AM
[Jim Ashmore]
Unfortunately, we are bound by state and federal law.
Please remember, we must look at any source of income
when determining eligibility and we cannot pick and
choose what we disregard.
10:12:58 AM
[Visitor] Hi! I work with older and disabled adults,
many who are on Medicaid, QMB and/or food stamps. Is
there anyway to streamline the application/reapplication
process? My residents will get an application to fill
out to be recertified for Medicaid or food stamps, and
then a few weeks later will get another application for
the other program and then maybe a month later get an
application for QMB, all of which require the same
documentation be sent in. Can't all these things be
handled with one application?
10:18:47 AM
[Jim Ashmore] Thank you
for bringing this concern up. It is on our list of
issues in need of streamlining service delivery.
Hopefully, we will have this issue resolved in the near
future.
10:02:25 AM [Visitor] I'm on unemployment, but it
is about to end. Would I qualify for food stamps?
10:04:40 AM
[Visitor] Can you tell me about the job training
program?
10:16:06 AM
[Jim Ashmore] You may
very well qualify for food stamps, even before your
unemployment expires. Please come in to 222 E. Central
Parkway, Monday-Friday.
10:17:00 AM
[Jim Ashmore] As for the
job training, we'd suggest you visit the Super Jobs
Center.
http://www.superjobs.com/
10:03:25 AM
[Jen] Yes I would
10:03:49 AM
[Jen] Would it give a reason. He won't admit he is
mentally ill
10:05:08 AM
[Jen] How would I get this paperwork?
10:13:05 AM
[Jen] I found the original application to apply for
food stamps online, but I didn't see any that could be
done by someone else. Where would I get the paperwork
for my son to sign, and would it say he was disabled? I
doubt if he would admit he is mentally ill.
10:14:40 AM
[Jim Ashmore] Here is a

10:03:03 AM [RACHEL] WHEN YOU APPLY FOR FOOD
STAMPS AND THEY RECEIVE IT ON A SPECIFIC DAY, AREN'T YOU
GUYS SUPPOSE TO GIVE STAMPS FROM THAT DAY ON NOT THE DAY
THEY ACTUALLY GOT TO THE APPLICATION?
10:06:58 AM
[RACHEL] WHEN YOU DO A CHANGE OF INCOME ON LINE AND
THEY AND SAY GIVE THEM 48 HOURS BUT IT TAKES LONGER WHAT
ARE WE TO DO?
10:13:00 AM
[Jim Ashmore] Yet. It
should go back to the day the application was signed,
dated and received by us, provided no more than 30 days
has lapsed and you are eligible. Not really sure where
the 48 hours came from. We'll check that out. However,
as of right now, our aim is to act on verified new
information within 10 days.
10:08:57 AM
[Visitor] can they help me find a job
10:10:12 AM
[Jim Ashmore] When you
apply for Ohio Works First, which it seems like you may
need to do, a work assessment will be conducted.
10:05:23 AM
[Visitor] what is the fax number
10:08:48 AM
[Jim Ashmore]
513-946-1360
10:01:15 AM [Kim] OK. How do I go about
requesting assistance at this point? Just lost job,
losing house, HATE admitting I need help...but I do.
Money is basically nill right now, which isn't something
I'm accustomed to. I need help for a short period (I
guess cash, food, etc....), but don't know how to go
about getting it.
10:06:30 AM
[Kim] Do you offer financial assistance with
education?
10:07:34 AM
[Jim Ashmore] We would
suggest that come in any morning, Monday-Friday, to 222
E. Central Parkway and apply. You might call 211 for a
list of resources, particularly as it pertains to
foreclosure. Visit
www.hcjfs.org and see Services for more detailed
info on our services.
10:02:20 AM
[Visitor] can u apply online
10:04:28 AM
[Jim Ashmore] You can
get the applications from our Online Service Center on
www.hcjfs.org and fax them in. Unfortunately, at
this time the interview itself cannot be handled online.
10:00:41 AM [Visitor] My son is mentally ill but
refuses treatment or even to be diagnosed. He's 39
years old and has worked part time for me for about 5
years. He makes $350
a month. He's very paranoid and thinks everyone takes
one look at him and
doesn't like him so he hardly ever goes out.
He is a one person household.
He filled out the application for food stamps and I sent
it in. He got a letter
saying he had to come in. He kept telling me he would
but he didn't. Without
any warning, he got a letter saying that because he
didn't come in within 30
days he would have to go to a public hearing before he
could get food stamps.
This would be impossible for him.
Is there anything else we can do?
10:03:15 AM
[Jim Ashmore] Would you
be willing to apply on his behalf? If so, we can get you
the paperwork for him to sign agreeing to this and go
from there.
9:56:02 AM
[Visitor] i have lost my job and was wondering if i
could get a debit card and food stamps
10:01:42 AM
[Jim Ashmore] Please
walk in any morning to 222 E. Central Parkway in
downtown Cincinnati and apply. We'll look at your
situation and see what we can do.
9:59:06 AM [Visitor] Thank you I did go there
(Super Jobs) Monday and met with a career coach but they
said the funds are very limited and everyone was wanting
help with training so I thought I would ask here because
someone had told me they thought the PRC program helped
with training
9:55:31 AM [Visitor] Are you affiliated with
Unemployment? (Don't mean to sound dumb)
9:59:06 AM
[Jim Ashmore] The state
Job and Family Services (Ohio Department of Job and
Family Services) oversees the Bureau of Unemployment
Compensation. However, the county Job and Family
Services are not affiliated. As a convenience, we have a
link at the bottom of
www.hcjfs.org to the unemployment Web site.
9:55:00 AM
[Visitor] Hi I am going to be going back to school
for nursing but was trying to find a way to get my stna
license for the meantime to get a job while I work my
way thru school, Is there any programs that can assist
you with paying for the stna training? I am going to go
to Cincinnati State for the Nursing starting in April. I
have had the hardest time trying to find a job and since
I know I want to go into nursing I know this would be a
way to find a secure job.
9:57:08 AM
[Jim Ashmore] I'm not
aware of anything particularly. You may want to check
with the Super Jobs Center.
